UPDATE: It looks this course has been postponed for now. More info when I have it.

If you’re working in digital marketing for a travel company or in travel PR, there are just so many things you have to keep on top of these days. Social Media, Blogger Outreach and blog trips, SEO, google authorship – the list is endless…

What makes it even harder of course is that all of these areas are naturally evolving all the time.

How can you be sure you’re following all the best practice, who has all the right answers? The truth is you can’t really and no one is the definitive, go-to guru on all of these matters, nope, not even yours truly.  😉

Meet some Experts

But it never hurts to meet some experts in the field of course. If you’re new to it – or even if you just need a bit of a refresher – here’s a training course I recommend.

Set up by Traverse Events, who launched their first successful travel blogging conference earlier this year and soon followed up with the Mingle networking events, these guys come from the travel blogging trenches themselves, so they know their stuff.

Social Media Travel Training

Next month they’ve organised a two day training event drawing on some of the top UK experts in the field of social media for travel. I’m not speaking at it myself this time, but I know a few of the people who are and can happily vouch for their expertise and knowledge.

This course runs in London from 20 – 21 August at My Hotel Chelsea.

It will teach you all the no nonsense basics, making it ideal for newbies, those who need to brush up on their social media skills a little and get the skinny on the latest trends for travel.

Introduction to Social Media – Julie Falconer

AKA A Lady in London, Julie will take you through your paces when it comes to delivering effective social media strategy and implementation for travel. Her day-long course covers social media strategy, effectiveness measurement and crisis management, drawing on real case studies from her client portfolio.

Guide to SEO – Adrian Land

Adrian looks after inbound marketing for My Destination and brings with him 13 years’ solid SEO experience, working specifically for big travel brands such as Thomas Cook and Hotels.Com. His half day course will give you all you need to know about SEO – but were afraid to ask your IT dept.

He promises to bust some google myths and give you a thorough grounding in researching and using keywords, authorship strategy and some more clever techy words I can barely understand. Essential SEO stuff from an industry leader in travel.

Blogger Outreach – Jayne Gorman

How should you approach savvy travel  bloggers these days, what are the big no-nos for working with travel and how can you swiftly establish an effective working relationship with them?

In a half day session, award-winning blogger and ex-Flight Centre social media supremo Jayne Gorman will cover all these matters, as well as blogging for brands, content creation, identifying influencers and the ins and outs of well organsied blog trips.

I know Jayne well and can attest to her expertise, having attended one of her workshops at the Travel Blogger Elavator conference last year, where I also spoke about my own experiences of working with the Canadian Tourist Commission, Fairmont Hotels and Via Rail on my trans-Canadian train trip.

All of these sessions can be booked individually – or for best value – together, as part of a bumper social media travel training package.

Aftercare Bonus

The full day courses include lunch and coffee for networking – and even an apres course cocktail too, dontchaknow.

Most importantly they all include a 1 hour Goggle+ hangout chat 2 weeks after the course to see how you’re getting on implementing what you’ve learnt.

Those already on board so far include the likes of Cathay Pacific, MSC Cruises, Contiki, Abercrombie & Kent, Rooster PR, Four BGB and many more clued up travel companies and PR agencies.
